When teams win championships it’s pretty standard these days that just about everyone in the organization receives some sort of commemorative jewelry. Players, coaches, execs, trainers and perhaps a key locker-room guy will get rings. THE ring players keep telling us they’re playing for. Others in the organization might get a watch or a necklace or cuff links of sort sort. But rings are reserved for the few.
Add to that mix: The DJ. That’s right, the DJ – the Spin-meister who’s replaced the campy organist at the hippest arenas. The Miami Herald reports that the NBA-champion Heat have informed their own DJ Irie that he’ll receive one of the coveted rings when the Heat receive its bling next season.
He’s got to be the first DJ to be so honored. ”How crazy is that?” Irie was quoted as asking. ”A DJ with an NBA championship ring!”NBA No doubt DJ I helped Heat up AA Arena. But I’m sure he had some help….
