G-A, Please Don’t Fire the Hibachi!

I’m hoping Gilbert Arenas changes his mind because “Quality shot!” is not nearly as cool Gilbertology as “hibachi!” That was Arenas’s mantra, shouted to the rafters every time he launched a shot, often from the rafters.

After firing up Kobe and the Lakers for 60 in a Washington OT victory last week, Bryant dissed the Wizards guard: “…him individually, it’s funny. He doesn’t seem to have much of a conscience. I really don’t think he does. Some of the shots he took tonight, you miss those, and they’re just terrible shots. Awful. You make them and they’re unbelievable shots. I don’t get a chance to play him much, so I haven’t gotten used to that mentality of just chucking it up there. ”

I didn’t even know where to begin, considering the source. Talk about the pot calling the kettle…well, you know, unconscience.

Arenas followed that performance with a 54-point scorcher against the Phoenix Suns two days later, then on Saturday told the Washington Post he was retiring “hibachi” in favor of “Quality shots.” “Maybe Kobe would say that was luck,” Arenas said. “It’s luck when you score 30 or 40, but luck can’t get you 50 or 60. Every game before the game, I make 10 3s from 10 spots on the court. That’s 100 3s.”

Boring. C’mon G, a guy who eats the same thing, dresses the same way and tickles his teammate’s armpit before every game can come up with something better. And I’m sure he will. At least I’m hoping.

Calendar note: The Lakers come to DC on 02.02.07. Fire up the grills.

  1. GA cracks me up and even a Laker diehard like me had a “Kobe didn’t just say that did he?” moment. No, Kobe is going to light up GA, don’t you think he won’t. The problem is that that’s not what the Lakers need him to do. We need to keep playing like a team and we’ll be fine. But I’m telling you, Kobe will decide to go for 50 AND shut GA down. We’ll see if that happens.

Didn’t the Lakers LOSE to the Wizards? Hot home?

Kobe needs to pick his spots (and his substance) better. When you lose, you really can’t say anything about how the other team chose to beat you. Gilbert took crazy shots when putting up 60? I don’t agree, but even if he did … that was his way of winning the game, and it worked.

    End of discussion.

Man, I stuck up for Kobe last week in a heated argument at the local barbershop in LA (Legends on Wilshire). I’m a fool..

I was willing to overlook Kobe’s Tiki-like female tendencies when he talks about his teammates, specifically, when he called out how Shaq had allegedely had extra-marital affairs. (Tiki had talked about OJ Jr… I mean Mike Strahan’s contract negotiations a few years back for which Tiki deserved a flying leap off the top rope and a Hogan leg drop on him for that).

But this? Kobe calling out a dude for having the audacity to drop 60 on his squad, at Staples? Cmon Kobe Bean Bryant.

This is lamer than your (1) rapping, (2) having to get tatted up with some outrageously princessy design, after you got caught in Colorado.

I guess Kobe is just made that GA gets more love in LA (GA’s hometown, ok, Van Nuys) than Kobe gets in Philly (irrational booing at the All-Star game).

Kobe is pure and simple a hater. He should worry less about another man, and what that man does and worry more about not disappearing in the second half of playoff elimination games.

Second half is about to start in the Heat-Lakers game. I’m outta here.

Somebody buy Kobe a clue. Is he conciously trying to be the most hated man in NBA lore? If not well he’s doing a bang up job. In any case, whether he’s wearing 8 or 24 his ignorance of the common R.O.T. “if you can’t say something nice…” is unbelievable. Its like a stripper not knowing to pick up the money on the stage.

Sorry Roy but Kobe is so Terrell Owens in my book.

    listen Roy,

I want to know what is the news on Vince Carter……no one is touching it with a ten foot pole……please respond
