Could not let this go by without notice. Sports connection? He performed at halftime of Super Bowl XXXI in 1997. Luther Vandross was the headliner, long before Nipplegate. My favorite JB groove: “Please, Please, Please”

  1. Juan says:

My understanding was that JB was a huge sports fan, and really loved boxing.

    Favorite JB lines:

“I had three meals a day. Oatmeal. Missed meal. No meal. ”
“I only got seventh-grade education, but I have a doctorate in funk, and I like to put that to good use.”

  2. My first memory of James Brown. It was 1970, I was four years old, and my uncle picked me up in his brand new AMX with an 8-track stereo. In the stereo, James Brown singing, “Say it loud, I’m black and I’m proud” as we cruised down Crenshaw Blvd. I thought he was the greatest then, and I still think so now. God bless him.

  3. Jake's Opine says:

“Baby, baby, babeee, 2 times ooooooowwwwwwww!! I got that feelin” My grammas favorite performer. Couldn’t even joke about JB. Mess around and get sent away from the table with no dinner.
